With a powerful and compact body, the Boxer has dark eyes, a large nose, square body and a tail almost always carried high. It is happy, with a good spirit, intelligent, eager and quick when it comes to learning new things. Excellent in competitive obedience, the Boxer is affectionate, loving, it bonds well with its family gets along very well with children.
It easily become friends with other dogs and cats, but chases chicken or other farm birds. Fight are common among female Boxers, that try to prove their dominance.
They are very clownish and playful and are often found grabbing and carrying various things in their mouth. The Boxer is protective by nature, especially with its home and family. They need human companionship, while also enjoying to play and work. They also love to jump but be sure to train them not to at an early age. Boxers are often used in the military or police dogs and make great guard dogs.
Boxer owners are confronted with common affections such as cardiomyopathy, sub-aortic stenosis, epilepsy or hip dysplasia. After the age of eight, they are more likely to get tumors. They also have a tendency to get allergies or to suffer from heart disease, while some white Boxers even being prone to deafness. The life expectancy is 11 to 14 years for this active breed that needs daily work or exercise as well as a daily walk.
