Dog Emergency Care

Dog emergency care

Emergency pet care is important to know for everyone that owns an animal. It may appear difficult to see the dog's injuries after a certain accident because, even though he looks fine, but he can suffer from internal injuries. A vital organ could have been damaged or ribs broken. If an accident has occurred, keep your dog quiet and warm. Cover him with a blanket until his body heat build up.

To see if you're dog is suffering from shock, check for a rapid or weak pulse, glassy eyed appearance or subnormal temperature. To check the mucus membrane, press firmly against the dog's gums until they turn white. After this, release and count the time the gums take to return to their normal color. If the time is over 3 seconds, then the dog might be suffering from shock or that he is in serious problems and requires assistance.

To see if it requires artificial respiration, check for any obstruction in its mouth. Extend his tongue, examine the pharynx, clear any mucus or blood he might have and leave its dog lightly open. To resuscitate it mouth-to-mouth, open its mouth, hold its dog at the bottom of the mouth, seal his nostrils and blow in his mouth. Repeat the equivalent 10 or 12 breaths a minute every 5 seconds.

If the accident is serious and the veterinarian cannot come to you, try to improvise a stretcher to take the dog to him. If the dog is a puppy, carry him in a thick blanket. It is highly recommended to roll an injured dog than to try lifting him. If you have to move your dog and you have no blanket, keep him as flat as possible, considering the possibility his back might be broken.
