Dog Skin Care
A dog's skin is like a mirror for his health. A healthy dog can be recognized by a thick and luscious coat but there are times when our pets occasionally suffer from skin problems. Veterinarians say that it is a common problem especially with Pure Breeds. Dobermans, golden retrievers, Scottish, Irish or fox terriers and beagles often have a dry, dull coat, suffer from bad smell, rashes or hair loss.
In what follows, we will give you a few advices on how to prevent any skin disease your dog may catch. Do not include in your dog's diet anything that might contain additives or impurities. Including vitamins, A, B, C, E and adding brewers yeast to your dog's diet is also recommended for a healthier pet. If your dog has a dry skin, add extra corn or safflower oil to its diet because these contain essential fatty acids.
Do not over-expose your dog to the sun too much. Also, if your dogs swims often and you know the water is stagnant or polluted, bathe him afterwards with fresh water. Keeping your dog clean is an essential part of staying healthy. Make grooming a daily activity and check his fur for mats, fleas, parasites or other irregularities. Dogs with long hair or thick fur need to be brushed and groomed daily so that the oil that accumulated comes out.
Frequent baths are not recommended for most races of dogs. Many times, bath taken too often may worsen some affections, also causing their skin to become dry and flaky. Make sure to use the right shampoo when bathing your dog. Shampoo for dogs is recommended and, for dogs that need special care, you can buy a shampoo for sensitive skin.
