10 Most Popular Dog Breeds
The American Kennel Club's annual survey presented us with the most popular dogs in 2006, according to the votes of their members. This is the 16th year in the row when the Labrador Retriever has won the title of the most loved dog in America. Immediately after the esteemed Lab in 2006 is the Yorkshire Terrier, knocking out several of its larger-sized competitors.
American dog owners seem to prefer larger dogs to include in their family. The Labs take this first place this year while the big dogs make up 45 percent of the 2006 registry. The rise of the small breeds are chosen by modern owners, that prefer a portable small pit that fit their fast paced lives. The AKC also said that about 50% of the dogs on the list require a low level of grooming. Here are the top ten breeds, according to the figures released by the AFK:
- Labrador Retriever
- Yorkshire Terrier
- German Shepherd
- Golden Retriever
- Beagle
- Dachshund
- Boxer
- Poodle
- Shih Tzu
- Miniature Schnauzer
