German Shepherd Dog
(Alsatian) (Deutscher Schaferhund)

Also known as the Alsatian, the German dog is very strong,, a muscular and elongated body and a solid bone structure. With a strong bite and wide ears, the dog has a bushy tail, and has round feet with very hard soles. There are three varieties of this breed: rough-coated, long rough-coated, and the long-haired.

Being fearless and alert, the German Shephers are often used as working dogs.

It has a bold and cheerful personality, it is loyal, courageous, serious and bright. The Alsatian tends to be very close to its families, has a protective instinct and only barks when necessary. Obedience must be thought from an early age, so that they know how to behave with children or other people. It works very well when it has a task; being intelligent, they can be used well as guard dogs, guide for the blind, police work or other dog duties.

The Shepherd dog also has a fine nose, being able to rapidly spot intruders, gas leaks or dogs. If the breeding doesn't go according to the rules, this can lead to  hereditary diseases such as hip and elbow dysplasia,blood disorders, epilepsy, eczema, dwarfism or flea allergies. The Alsatian has a life expectancy of 13 years, can go along with living in an apartment, but needs regular exercise outdoors. They love demanding activities and, being very intelligent, they respond well to training.
