Golden Retriever
The powerful, well-proportioned dog has a broad head, scissors bite, medium-sized ears and a long tail. The Golden Retriever is lovable, can be easily trained because it is very intelligent. They are eager to please their owner, loyal, confident and one of the best choices for a family dog. Obedience competitions is the place where they excel, they are friendly with everyone but have poor guarding instincts.
Left alone or without human contact for a large period of time, the dog can often become mischievous. Some of the dogs in this breed are used for hunting, retrieving, drug detection, to perform tricks or for their agility. OFA and CERF certification are important because the Golden Retrievers are prone to congenital eye disease and hip dysplasia. Among the common diseases, heart problems are also found or skin allergies that require immediate attention. They can be over-exuberant and distractible.
The dog can be kept in an apartment, but considering its size it needs plenty of exercise and will do best with at a medium or large yard. With a life expectancy of 10 to 12 years, veterinarians recommend to give the dog plenty of exercise and not overfeed him, because it has tendencies to put on weight. The Retriever has a smooth hair that is easy to groom. It sheds regularly and baths should be administered only when necessary.
