
Labrador Retriever
There are two types of Labradors, the English Labrador and the American Labrador. The first are heavier and with a thicker coat, while the second is tall and lanky. The retriever is tall, easy to care for and has a coat resistant to water. Its fur can come in solid black, yellow, or chocolate color, some specialists even mentioning about a rare silver or gray color.
The Labrador is a loving and affectionate creature. They love to play, have an excellent temperament and they are very friendly. They appreciate human attention and love to be part of a loving family. These dogs are mostly watch dogs and not guard dogs. Sometimes, they may become destructive if they are left too much on their own. They have very powerful necks that is why it is recommended to train them early in their life not to pull on their leash.
It is advised to buy such a dog only from a breeder with a reputation. They are good for guarding, police duty, hunting, tracking, guide for the blind, service dog for the disabled, or can even spot narcotics. The Labradors are energetic dogs, but can be raised in an apartment if they have plenty of exercise. They eat a lot and not to exercise so that they don't become overweight. The breed is prone to to hip and elbow dysplasia, PRA or eye disorders and has a life expectancy of 10 to 12 years.
