Miniature Schnauzer
(Zwergschnauzer) (Mini Schnauzer)
With a long head and bushy beard, the Mini Schnauzer has a long head, thick eyebrows and a docked tail. The small dog is perky and has bright, friendly eyes, demanding attention and companionship from its owner. It is often feisty and aggressive towards the other dogs, putting on a show even it doesn't intent to fight. Even though it has a small size, the Schnauzer can get itself into trouble by challenging large dogs.
In order to avoid this type of conflict, socialize this breed well so that it gets along with other breeds. If properly introduced, it will have a good relationship with another dog but won't allow this to every dog that comes its way. The best way to avoid this type of behavior choose a dog whose parents have a temperament that you enjoy. Be that as it may, the Mini Schnauzer makes good companions and family pets.
They love to bark a lot, but most of the times it is not as disturbing as you might think. They are great at catching mice and at guarding your house or family members. Some can be reserved with strangers, but most love everyone. The breed is usually healthy, but some dogs may suffer from skin disorders, diabetes, liver diseases, kidney stones, cysts or hereditary eye problems. As many other small dogs, it mustn't be overfed because it gains weight easily.
The dog lives up to 15 years and shows signs of aging later in its life. It is an active dog, but can do okay in an apartment, without a small yard. They enjoy long daily walks and love playing with their owners.
